I laughed when I read that today’s daily prompt is Moxie. Moxie is also the name of the fabulous bakery about a mile from my home. https://www.moxiebreadco.com Its only been open a few years, and has already made quite a name for itself, locally and nationally, including being named one of the best new bakeries the country by BonAppetit magazine last August.
Now I love a good pastry or some chewy, crusty, rustic bread. So delicious and satisfying. What’s not to like? Well, I also have a little problem with sugar. If I eat sweet stuff more than occasionally, I end up with serious craving issues, my body hurts and my mood suffers. And now, as I am embarking on my triathlon training program with the intention of improving my fitness, watching my diet is important. What’s a craver to do?
Moderate and eat intentionally. If I go to Moxie and have a delicious kouign annan or croissant with coffee, I make sure I go with a friend and take plenty of time to savor and enjoy every bite. Or, at my house, we bring home a small loaf of bread or a roll to share with some home made soup. Delicious, and before I’m utterly hooked, its gone.
I just looked up the definition of Moxie in the urban dictionary: “Having moxie means having enough cleverness, skill, creativity, fortitude and cajones to solve (or, at least, to get out of) a difficult and personally threatening situation.” It turns out that I have the moxie to deal with Moxie, without totally depriving myself of Moxie’s delights!
