Aretha Franklin, aka The Queen of Soul died yesterday. What a gifted woman she was. She had a soaring voice, honed in her church choir as a child, and was a fine pianist as well. Remembrances abound, not surprising given her wide appeal and range of accomplishments. Many Grammys for her singing, performing at the inaugurations of Presidents Clinton and Obama, receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom from George Bush, Kennedy Honors, etc, etc. I won’t go into much here, simply say thank you, and I appreciate all of your hard work. You have been gift to the world, and you have my respect.

Loved her soulful voice! I heard on CBC radio yesterday that Aretha and her sisters added the refrain R-E-S-P-E-C-T to the original version of the song, which changed the meaning, and making it somewhat of a feminist anthem.

I would have done the same thing, so I’ll just reblog yours. Wasn’t the tape of her on Colbert last night amazing?

Didn’t see it, I’ll have to check it out. I really liked yesterday’s rebroadcast on Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

Aretha is probably performing to a sold out concert up there with a choir of soulful Angels.

Reblogged this on Serendipity – Seeking Intelligent Life on Earth and commented:
What else could I do? I would have done the same, so I’ll just propagate this. What a great singer she was and how we will miss her. No one will fill her shoes.

Not many could put on that hat and have it look so fine 🙂

Very true. Takes a certain presence and carriage to pull that off!

Gran, I pity the fool who might criticize Ms.Franklin’s hat.
