Killed while fighting
Wars started by another
Will it ever end?
Today is Memorial Day in the US, a day to remember and honor those who died fighting for the country. I acknowledge and grieve the lives given in service by the men and women who fought in these battles, never of their own making.
At the same time, the pointlessness and horror of war remains. This longstanding approach of violence, tribalism and power over others has yet to resolve the issues. A definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different outcome. Pete Seeger’s song, Where Have All the Flowers Gone, composed in 1955, remains sadly pertinent today. You can listen to it here.
I close with the song’s refrain: When will we ever learn, when will we ever learn?
Peace to all.
I believe the best way to “honor our troops” is to stop sending them to kill or be killed. BUT…

Yes, when will we ever learn?!
We don’t need a bigger, more powerful military (as Trump says). We need to show that peace is the way; weapons of barbarism are a bad means to a violent end. Now, here in the U.S., even the kids are killing each other.

Quite possibly, we are as a race unable to learn.
